if you live down south get from a hatchey if not wait until spring and get them from the feed store, im getting 2 eater eggers this spring cause michigan winters are very cold, and i got to get 3 buff orp girls that are 5 mon old through the first cold winter. i got mine through the feed store and when i get the other 2 ill get them there too and i make sure that thy are vaccinated against mereks and newcastle disease. there are only a few people these days that get them vaccinated. its very cheap, just a word of caution if you are starting out and you get as paranoid as i am. but mine are pets only with a egg bonus. thats my info that i tell everyone, but alas noone listens to me (its sad)

check craigslist.org BUT don't just buy from anybody, check to make sure the person who is selling them has a clean, healthy flock of chickens before adopting a bunch of living creatures.

Other than that, the best places to buy chicks are feedstores and online hatcheries (Murray McMurray, Meyers, Ideal, etc.etc.).

Good luck and make sure to look around the forums, especially all the pictures
