Hi! I have a 5 day old cochin chick who seems to be a loner. She is shy and stays under the heater most of the day unless she's eating or drinking. She doesn't seem too active. She seems to be eating/drinking without a problem. When I pick her up she doesn't quite freak out like the others, she's very calm. I was wondering if she's getting sick/dying or if that's just her personality? She hasn't had any pasty butt or anything and like I said, is eating and drinking just fine.

I believe eating and drinking are the key. Chickens can be like people.....sometimes they just want some "me time", but as long as it is getting food and water, I would keep watching it, but not be too concerned.

Keep an eye on her poop. Cocci is common in this age.

Have you noticed any of the others "bullying " her? It's not uncommon for chicks to decide they don't like a particuliar brooder mate. She may be trying to avoid them.
