Well yesterday the chick was up and moving around with the other ones and also before I left today to take my kids to the mall to see Santa. I think I was only gone 2 hrs at the most.

I wonder If it just got sick or just did not eat or drink like the others....

Mine were all fine. This was at about 5 weeks. Then one night we came home and she was just dead. No marks or anything but she was laid out flat. Her legs out behind her. We finally figured out she had been smothered. That's why I ask.

She might have been smothered, that can be the only explenation that I can think of.
Now I am watching all the babies like a hawk.

I'm sorry you lost a little one. That is always hard. I'm glad to hear the others are doing so well. As long as they look healthy and are running around, pooping, drinking, eating, than I would figure that babies death as just a fluke accident. It happens. Sorry for your loss.

Its my experience that a chick or two die even under a hens watchful eye. Just do your best and que sera, sera.
