Hi everyone, I’m Carrie-Ann and I’m new here. I have a newly hatched (in the last hour) baby duckling. Still attached to bottom half of shell. When I looked there seems to be a large veiny lump.

This is my first time hatching and I am scared something is wrong

Any help appreciated x

It looks like it’s attached to the ducklings tummy, then also attached to the inside of the egg. The baby is trying to push the egg away but this is stuck 😢😢

It could be an unabsorbed yolk sac. I haven’t dealt with it personally, but have read about it a lot on this forum. You can do a search and read about it.

I would put the duckling with its shell into a paper towel lined cup, so it can’t crawl around, and then leave it in the incubator. Maybe someone with personal experience will chime in
