I've been posting in the duck forum but my baby ducks just hatched and are wobbling around nice and drunk ;)
The 2nd one (who took over 30 some hours from pip) left a nice size blob of yuck in his shell.. Is this normal for ducks? Duck 1 had a small amount as well but the second one seemed larger . Thoughts? [IMG]

Congrats on the hatch! Duckling hatches are so lovely. Some gunk in the shell is normal, especially after a prolonged hatch. As long as the hatchling is o.k. and it's navel is sealed up I wouldn't worry.

Congratulations on your ducklings! The more posts I read about incubating, the more interested I get. Don't have the extra room for more birds now (we have chickens) but maybe someday. In the meantime, I'll just continue to be amazed at what others are doing. Have fun with your new birds!

Congrats on your ducklings at last!! :celebrate

As sumi said the gunk is quite normal for post hatch. It's just the poop that has now where to go while the duckling is in the egg.
Enjoy your new ducklings and good luck with them in the future :frow
