Hi, we recently got 5 baby ducks. We currently have a rooster and 8 hens. Can we put them in together and if so, at what age. Thank you in advance for any advice. We are new to raising chickens

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about ducks (although I've had a few), but I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. You should post this on our duck section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks where are duck experts reside. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I know you can raise chickens and ducks together but you should start when they are young. It's hard to introduce ducks to chickens. So mix them when they are young.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Ducks have different requirements. Water, water and more water! And chickens can't take such damp wet conditions. You will want to keep the ducks in their own coop and area. But yes, definitely post in our Ducks section for more help with your ducks.

Welcome to our flock!

Ducks and chickens may be able to free range together but it's best if they are cooped apart. Ducks are very messy poo-ers and love to splash around any water they can find.

Next to them chickens seem discrete - they don't like being wet.
