we just hatched out a cute little male emu..he's now 4 days ols and wont stand up..it's like he's too fat..baby chicks are up and running as soon as they fluff up...but he's worse off than wobbley...he has eaten some...but since emus only drink once a day, i have witness him drinking..so i am worried. i read that after ingesting the egg yolk before the hatch, that he can suffice on this for up to 10 days...seems too long for my thoughts,,i know our chicks , ducks, etc.. all breeds are eating by day always...any ideas to get KeITH to walking. i went on youtube.com and searched emu videos, and live hatchings, and they were all so small but running like crazy..if this is the norm, please let me know..oh yeah, we named him keith after keith urban since he too is from australia! lmao! thanks in advance...one worried new momma!!

I don't know the answer to your question.... hope he will do better. I know my emu always drank all the time.... Perhaps put him on some vitamins like liquid poultry vitamins to give him a boost. Is he alert?

the shell is sooo thick.. but you know the bator didnt run at a much higher humidity for the emu.. i was also scared of this while he was "waiting to be hatched"... but he pipped all alone, even a day early..all by himself.. that egg was just a rocking, for more than a week prior to his arrival. i guess, his beak is so much larger and heavier, or thicker for lack of better words... it must be the same ratio or comparision as a chicks to it's shell....AMAZING IF U ASK ME.... DANA MORE PICS TO FOLLOW AS HE IS GROWING SOOO FAST NOW...!
