Oh, Hi!!! I am so tickled you msg'd me back. I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR VIOLET....AND, HER BABIES!!!! How beautiful!! I, very much, enjoyed reading about Violet, she is exactly what I would love to have. If, I do get some goats, I don't know what I'm planning to do with them. I'm pretty sure, I won't be getting them for meat. I just couldn't, not to say that I haven't killed for meat. I am not a big meat eater at all....once in a while, a little.....so, I'd probably get a couple at first for pets. I don't want any males...."Billies"? I don't know, right off, what the male is called. I know they stink during the mating season, I think.?. I would love to breed some girls, possibly, who knows.....I've just got it in my head that I want some. I have visited some goat farms, fell more in love with them than ever. I have always loved them, they are so dang cute! I have to laugh, I am the one who would have a BIG barnyard.....hubby, on the other hand, he likes animals (not to the extent that I do) but he always tells me go for it. I know he really doesn't want me to make more work for ourselves, plus, he wants to go see his brother in Wyoming, sometimes, and our son lives in Florida, and he wants to go see him, sometimes. So, he will say, "who's gonna take care of animals, if we get more?!?". Well, my daughter is not far from us (20 min) and he knows, she's an animal lover, just like me, although she's a busy person. I'm sure she would stay at our house if we were to go somewhere. Makes me laugh.....I am big hearted for anything that needs a home, he will sometimes say (teasingly) "now honey, don't bring home anything that we have to feed and cleanup after" LOL in my heart, I know he hopes I don't yet he knows, I will do what I want, if I take a mind to it. So, that is why I am researching all I can about goats......I'm easing into it, if you know what I mean. I was Thanking all of you on the thread! You talking about Violet and your babies just put more sparks under me to get me some goats. May be a while, I'd have to get out and redo my pens, make everything "goat" proof and "predator" proof.....a couple years ago, I had tons of chickens. Had a blast with them, hatched, hand tamed & sold & raised them for a few years. We still have all the setup to have chickens again & want to do that again. So, once I get everything ready.....chickens and goats, are my aim. I think, I would love to raise & sell goats....sounds like that would be my thing. I have to learn more esp. about predators and such.

Will chat again, I hope! Thank you!

Hmmmm.....never thought about that! Thanks, Poult, it's something I will think about. Let me say, I've seen people who have raised a goat in the house and potty trained it. Is that really possible? I have 3 small, house-trained dogs that have a doggie door to a large kennel opened to a large fenced in part of my yard. The dogs are friendly to other animals. Is it possible for me to get one baby goat and train it to live amongst my little dogs, using the doggie door? My dogs would love another playmate and that would be just tooo cooool ! Do I sound nuts? Would the little hoofs of the goat damage my real hardwood floors (not laminate flooring)?

Thnx! Violet is my baby I just love her so much! If you are getting goats for milk production the guys are called bucks, meat goats are called billies :). They stink during certain months when they go into "rut" yes, its pretty bad, but I still love my buckies. They are definitely little angels, the Nigies. I hope you end up getting them, they are amazing little creatures, and give me and my family so much enjoyment. Keep me updated, and

Yes I am pretty sure that's possible! If you can potty train a rabbit I'm pretty sure you can potty train a goat. & if your dogs won't hurt the goat they will be fine together and I don't think your crazy I'd do the same! & the flooring im not sure.Yes your goat would learn to use the doggy door to especially with dogs showing her/him.

Thank you and I will keep you posted. Probably will have to wait for bad weather to pass to where we can go out and make plans for how to pen them. Or, decide what I'm going to do! I gotta do some more reading. I am open to learn all I can. Do you, or anyone, have favorite sites to refer me to?
http://fiascofarm.com/ Best site I've found so far. Check the husbandry section for info on birthing process, I believe in your original post you asked about that.

We had bottle feed a baby during winter n we keep her inside the house with US n she was potty trained before she was 1 week old she is almost 3 mths now n still inside our house she is our house goat now since our big dog died a few mths ago
