Baby Goat Incoming!

They are adorable, but I'm not sure you put these on the right thread, as it was just started a few days ago. :)

Cute kids! Lol! Yeah one of our doe's didn't clean the sack off her babies so we had to do it & then she wouldn't feed them so yeah that was difficult the next time she kidded she did much better though. That was many years ago.I have more experience with dog births & a few cat births.

We weren't even 100% sure that our girl Molly was pregnant until last month, her udders swelled. Later (around Jan. 25th or so?) she started acting so unusual (restless, constantly pawing around, laying down and vocalizing) that we thought for sure she was about to go into labor...but by the next day, nothing! False alarm, she was back to her old self. We set up a stall for her to kid in, continued to monitor and keep her penned in the run area for the next few days in preparation, but she didn't seem interested in the stall and after a week had passed with no more signs of impending labor we sort of gave up, figuring we'd overestimated her progress and might have to wait a while longer...

then on Feb. 4th after everyone else has left to work and school, I look out the window and see her laying down in the stall. I think "omg, is it finally happening?" and run out there to check...but she wasn't kidding, she already had 2 adorable kids with her!

I was slightly disappointed that I missed the birth (been a long time since I've seen one in action), but then again it's also a nice surprise to come out to cute (and already cleaned-up) babies. lol. She is a first-time mom but turned out to be a very good one who has done her job well, needed no help from us! The kids are healthy and crazy, will be 3wks old this Wed. (pics here)

silkieloverz, since the behaviors sound very similar maybe your goat is still in the "prepping" stages like mine was? after the "false alarm" we had, my mom was also worried about the possibility that something went wrong with labor and the babies would be "stuck", but it was of course totally fine. If she is having contractions but still no discharge then maybe she is just in very early stage of labor and isn't *quite* to the point of birth yet. I have been around for births with malpositions in the past (2 kids trying to come out at once). I second what Poult said, just keep an eye on her over the next day to make sure everything progresses smoothly! I hope you get to see the birth whenever it happens!
Thank you for your reassurances. It means a lot, yea thing is we have no idea when she was bred, but going by the way the kids are so active and she is showing signs, i figure end of feb. early march.

First of all that is a ridiculous excuse. That's how you have dead kids. If you're going to have babies, you need to be willing to go in and check, ESPECIALLY where you guys are far from a vet. I'm not trying to be mean, but that's the silliest thing I've heard today, and I'm a law fire and ems dispatcher! Lol

So PSA over.... has she kidded yet? You said she was having contractions, how do you know? What she pushing, or you just thought she was having them? That makes a big difference in what you need to do.
No she has not kidded. Yes i know it is ridiculous, and in no way think you are being mean, i have a tendency to be a bit paranoid which contributes to them not wanting to check. I didn't see her pushing, my dad did. We both watched a birthing video, so he probably did see her pushing, i did see her lying down in the same position as the video, on her side and kind of awkward, contractions i am guessing because she kept tensing up. Thank you very much for your help, that goes for everyone.

OMG! Both of your guys kids are adorable! Congrats you guys! Would pics of Bella make this easier for you guys to help me out? If so i will try to get them but as i said she is petty restless.

So how is she acting now then? Goats don't start pushing one day and not have kids the second day unless something is wrong. If she truly was pushing yesterday by now she would need alot of help, and probably drugs from the vet. Could you take some pics maybe? I'm guessing you may have just seen her stretching and trying to get kids into place, but I could be wrong. If she was actually in labor yesterday and you don't have any kids right now, you're facing a serious situation.

Also when she was "pushing" did her lady parts seem to be protruding some, or was she just straining?

Dad says he's not sure, could just be a contraction. Yes she was stretching them in place, and i think she dropped them. My mom is good with pics so they would be better. I think she is fine jumps up to see us when we go down and everything. Do you think i should tell my dad to check her?
