My wife brought home a 3 week old goat yesterday. He took the bottle of milk replacer enthusiastically for both feedings. Today he won't eat at all, and he has a cough/sneeze with a clear nasal discharge. I don't have a thermometer, so I don't know if he has a fever. I tried putting Karo syrup on the nipple but he still isn't interested.

What should I do?

If there is an experienced goat breeder near you, I would call them. The little guy probably has what they call "shipping fever" and probably needs some antibiotics.

Sounds like pneumonia. Needs antibiotics. And throw out the milk replacer. Just use whole milk from the store. He will do much better on it.

I just got back from buying a thermometer and some canned milk. His temp is 102.3, which is good, right? I had read that milk replacer was bad so I bought some Carnation evaporated milk. He went straight for the bottle like he could smell it!

With no fever could it still be pneumonia?
