I am new to this site. I love all animals and always try to protect nature. I have been watching this flock of geese grow from babies at Shaker Lakes in northeast Ohio. I noticed one of the geese a few weeks ago with its wing drooping. I feel so sorry for the little guy. I called a nature center and they said I should wrap it in a blanket and bring it to them in a box. I am concerned that if I don't bring it to them it will never be able to fly and will die I the winter when the flock flies away. I am also worried if they can't fix the wing they will just put it to sleep. I am even willing to pay to rehab the poor bird. The flock usually comes on land in late afternoons and the elders let me move around them and into the flock. I have been reading about angel wing and I mentioned to the nature center and they said if it has angel wing it will die, but as I have read on various sites it can be corrected. I also thought perhaps a dog went after the goose and injured it as some owners let their dogs run wild in the park. Can you tell me if the photo I attached looks like angel wing? Also if I take the goose for rehab will it be able to be reunited with its flock. I am concerned they will smell humans on the goose and not accept it back into the flock. I am so torn on what to do and I feel bad every day that passes. Can you give me any advice?

Poor little guy. He's lucky you are there to help him!

Catch the bird and wrap him in a blanket so he can't flap or bite you. Put him in a well padded crate. Try taking him to the center, but if you are truly afraid they will put him down (they do that with birds that can't be released sometimes, even though there are a ton of good zoos and homes that would take them) then you can try splinting the wing yourself and bringing him back to your place until release.
It does not appear to be angel wing, and angel wing is treatable and does not lead to death. However, it can make it so they can't fly.
Keep the goose in a small pen or find some one else who will rehab it and then return it to this lake, so it can join its flock for the migration. If it can't be released, a ton of small, private zoos that love educating children and adults alike take in injured wildlife to use for educations, giving them a good life as well as teaching people about them.

I doubt the other geese won't except it because of smell, they bond to each other very strongly. However, they may bully it if they think it is weak.

Antibiotics will prevent infection. Make sure it gets lots of vitamins.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions. Best of luck!

Thank you for your reply. I will try to catch the goose. I am not sure how to set a splint or what to feed the poor thing and not sure where I would get the correct antibiotics. I can call my vet.
