Does anyone use these kind of locks on their coops and runs? Can raccoons open them? I use them indoors on my cupboards in case of earthquakes. They work well for that. I was thinking that in addition to normal locks, I would put one of these over the handles of the nest box doors. I don't trust those raccoons and figure I will put as many layers of protection on the coop as I can.

I think those would not hold up to a Raccoon's teeth for very long.
We don't have exterior opening nest boxes yet but when I do install them there will be hasps and locks installed, one at each end along with an eye and hook in the middle which will be one of ones that has the safety catch.

The only thing I trust to deter Raccoons is good old Master Locks with heavy duty hasps. Even have these on all coop doors and the run door.

Second that! I had vast experience dealing with racoons gaining access to tents and trailers in the state parks where I used to be a park ranger. Believe me. Raccoons have nimble fingers and even more nimble brains to manipulate any and all fasteners this side of lock and key.

Thanks everyone. I was going to use these in addition to the hasps and locks, but if they can work them or chew through them, then there would be no point in using them. I was just curious. Darn raccoons.

I wouldn't use anything plastic, raccoons will chew through it.

We use slide bolts with slide latches on our run door. Here's a pic

If you're using hasps and locks you don't need anything else.
