I am worried about my week old pea chick. My son was trying to show it to his friend and the surrogate hen escaped and the pea chick went with her. The hen immediately went into the chicken coop and started dust bathing. My son knew they weren't supposed to be out but didn't realize it was imperative. I came out to find the mom happily covered in coop dirt and the chick standing nearby. I have been so careful to keep them in a clean environment and now this. I have had them in a linoleum-floored room with shelf liner that I take out and wash after every poo. Well, now it has been exposed to whatever is in the coop (I have not had any sick birds, just lots of chickens in there.) The feed it is getting is medicated (against both coccidiosis and enteritis) and has 24% protein. Is there anything else I can do as a preventative? I REALLY want this baby to live.

Thanks, I don't want to stress too much because it will not help. Safeguard is a wormer? I assume TSC will have it? Actually my birds are due a worming and I have been trying to determine how I can give them a dose of ivermectin (I have a tube of horse wormer paste that needs to be used.) I also have some Wazine on hand, but I can go to TSC and pick up the other if I need it.

Wazine is not as effective as the Ivermectin/safeguard combo and will not treat cecal/capillary worms at all. Don't use the ivermectin and safeguard at the same time. Use the safeguard first. Follow up with ivermectin.

You can use the ivermectin paste but I have no idea on dosage or getting into them. I give it orally or on the skin.

Someone suggested that he dosage for an average sized LF (4lbs) chicken would be a pea sized gob of the paste, I thought I could adjust up or down for the larger or smaller birds but how on earth was I going to get it in each bird individually? That is where I became stuck.

I have 49 birds in all. I wonder if it can be disolved in water and given as the sole source for 24 hours like Wazine?

Tell me about the one you put on the skin. Is it the pour on cattle wormer I have heard mentioned? What is the name of it? I am assuming I can get that at the local co-op but it will likely be a huge container. I am also figuring that I will put it under the feathers, between the wings on the birds back (like the dog's flea med.)
