I am worried about my week old pea chick. My son was trying to show it to his friend and the surrogate hen escaped and the pea chick went with her. The hen immediately went into the chicken coop and started dust bathing. My son knew they weren't supposed to be out but didn't realize it was imperative. I came out to find the mom happily covered in coop dirt and the chick standing nearby. I have been so careful to keep them in a clean environment and now this. I have had them in a linoleum-floored room with shelf liner that I take out and wash after every poo. Well, now it has been exposed to whatever is in the coop (I have not had any sick birds, just lots of chickens in there.) The feed it is getting is medicated (against both coccidiosis and enteritis) and has 24% protein. Is there anything else I can do as a preventative? I REALLY want this baby to live.
