i hatched a baby about 2 weeks ago and it has splayed legs or straddled ,,,i read on line to take a band aid and put it around its ankles and leave about 1.5 inches in the middle ,,well it makes it very hard for it to walk (almost impossible ) does anybody have any other suggestions ????
any would be great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can use a band aid or guaze tape but the legs need to be taped together to stop the chick from letting the leg go out from under it. It is also called "hobbling" because the chick has to hobble instead of walking. You want to be sure when you tape the legs that they are even with the width of the chick and not bought in too far. The chick will be able to stand and hobble around. Should be kept on for about 3 days but sometimes it may need to be replied if the chick still has splayed leg.

If you can keep the chick in an area where you can dip it's beak in water several times each day to drink, and put feed in front of it,,,,,you can "roll" the peachick up in newspaper. First of all you will need to zip tie or tape both legs together and close together,no wider than a width they would be if standing up. It may take 2 people to perform the next part of this, but place the legs under the chick as if it were sitting. Get an idea of how wide the chick is(actually long) from neck to it's rear end. I normally cut the newspaper about 6" wide and maybe 1.5-2' feet in length. You then roll the chick up in the newspaper with it's legs under it as if it was sitting. I then staple the newspaper since it will need to extend past the chicks rear end I also staple the newspaper so it's somewhat tight around the neck. The peachicks head and maybe a little of it's neck is all that you will see and if you've stapled it right the chick will be able to be put down so it sits flat all the time. It basically looks like a rolled up jelly roll but is immobile thus the need to help it drink and putting feed in front of it. If you don't roll and tape it tight enough it will struggle and get free. It needs to stay rolled up like this for at least 2 days then cut everything lose and see how it walks. You should see a huge improvement but depending on since it's already 2 weeks old,it may take a little longer,so then you would need to do the process all over again for a few more days.
