Ok we have a baby duck, and she pipped yesterday at around 5 o'clock! She's still in the egg, and the egg itself is turning this horrible brown color, like it's bruised!! She is alive, and peeping really loud!! Are we to the point that we should help? The humidity is perfect, she's just NOT coming out!

Not sure on ducks, but I know I got really worried with my Marans - Most of them pipped at 8AM in the morning, then never hatched until 12-24 hours later. Some of them wouldn't even pip until day 23. . .

I'd say wait a whole day, and see if you get any progress.

let it be... it will hatch.. It can take 2 days though it is usually about 24 to 36 hours....sometime sooner...Check your humidity... I wouldn't even dream of touching it till you are well past the 24... It could be sitting there absorbing the yolk and if you open it... It could bleed to death.

So give her another hour then? In an hour it will have been 24 since she pipped. I'm not sure on ducks either. Will it entomb her if we open the bator to help her? She sticks her beak through the hole, and you can see crack marks all over the egg, just not breaking.

OK will do!!! Thank you!

We were just getting worried cuz she had pipped 24 hours ago, and I had heard that 24 hours is the max time for them to hatch. She's already 3 days later that all the other eggs too! We had called it quits, shut down the bator, and I was cleaning it to set my next set of eggs. Then we were about to break open the egg to see why it didn't hatch, and it moved in my hand. So we candled it, and you could see the little bugger moving!!. We quickly got it back in the bator, and she pipped like about 3 hours later. We honestly thought the egg was bad cuz it looks like it is rotten!
