Also, if any part of your blow dryer has a Teflon coating that heats up, it could harm/kill your birds - same thing with burning Teflon coated pots and pans on the stove and the birds breathing in that air. Apparently they're very sensitive to it

Thanks! I had some food already ground up, so I'm feeding them that.. but unfortunately, today when I checked on them one of them was dead I didnt see any sign of unnatural causes of death, so I'm thinking it just was too weak . but so far, alls going well. I have happy little boogers! But its a pain in the but to change their beddin because I have to take all of them out and then put them back in! but it's all worth it seeing how cute and soft they are I'll keep you updated! Wish me luck!!

Wait until they decide to get frisky and fly out of the container you put them in to clean the cage ;P

Or about a week old they like to fly out, especially in the mornings! You're probably seeing/feeling feather shafts by now

Should I put something on the top so they cant get out? Its alot of work, yes, but theyre just sooo cute! You seem to know alot about quails Thanks for guiding me through their "childhood". When can I stop grinding their food? I dont want to grind too much and make it go to waste! Also, the just kick their food out! Its so annoying because I have to refill it every 2 seconds! Yes, put a wire lid on top. Mine started flying out of the box when they were 1 week old.

Yes you need a top. wire is best and they wont get hurt plus it will let your heat lamp shine through. I grind their food for 1 week. See if your feed store can get you a feeder like the one in the picture, I put a plastic paint can lid under it to help save some of their feed. Glad you got the heat problem taken care of.

By wire lid he means hardware cloth. I used 1/4" mesh and left it ever-so-slightly loose. When they did the popcorn dance nobody ever got hurt in my 18" tall brooder.

Mine also jump out at around 1 week old, so definitely have some kind of lid by that time.

I usually don't use wire mesh by itself when they are brooding. Mesh on top of something else is fine, but mesh by itself, their feet could slip through and then they get trampled by the others.

I actually just buy my quail food in the form of crumbles (instead of pellets). That has been sufficiently small enough for them whether they are babies or adults. But if you are using the blender, I would suggest a dedicated blender for them and not mix it with human food blending.
