Our little Mr. Incredible's (yes, that is his name) voice is getting rougher. Most of the chicks still have their high-pitched chirps, but not him. Is this a good sign that he really is a cockerel? His wattles are red now, but his comb has yet to darken and hasn't grown much.

I tried to take some photos of him, but the lighting was really bad, so I apologize for the bad quality. Can anyone tell anything from these?

I think he's tried to crow a little by now – and one of the chicks (I'm not sure who) likes to chirp VERY LOUDLY every night for about five minutes, after the lights are turned off.

He's a Buff Orpington, BTW.

how cute!!! my buffs would have booked! won't sit still long enough. probally a roo. how old is he?

Mr. Incredible will be 5 weeks on Monday. I don't think any of our other Buffs have as dark wattles as him. A few of the chicks' wattles are getting redder, but I think his are definitely the reddest.

And do cockerels' heads feather out faster than the pullets'? He seems a couple of days ahead of most of the other chicks on head feathers.

I'd say looking at the wattles and those big legs he's a little roo. I'm not sure if their heads feather out faster I never paid specific attention to it but I haven't noticed that myself.
