I let a friend borrow my incubator so that he and his family could hatch 7 Serama eggs with his family that they ordered from My Pet Chicken.
At a ten day candling only one was viable. My pet chicken is sending them 7 of the fun and funky assortment soon.
I told them hatching this loaner would be hard because chickens are very social and hard to hatch a single.
After sitting the seven eggs they said they were going on a one week vacation leaving me to care for the hatch. The one that was left pipped on day 23 and had no progress so I had to help it out after 24 hours. It was not in good shape but it is fine now. It is very attached to me because I taught it to eat and drink and have cuddled it for a few days now.
I was told that they bond tightly with one person such as in this case and could die being transferred at this point. They have small kids and tiny new kitten as well. They think they should be just fine getting the serama back and buying a regular sized baby chick for it.
If this will be ok then I am fine with it but I am in love with this baby and want it to be ok. It cries until I pick it up and naturally has bonded with me. I will be happy to keep if these things are true above.
I really don't know anything about Seramas but knew someone on here may shed some light on this situation. If it dies because of a transfer or a new baby chick I will be heartbroken.
