Baby Silkie

Hi all, we recently hatched a lovely baby Silkie who is very friendly with lots of character. Are there any indications of gender from the pictures? We intend to keep the Silkie either way but it would be interesting to know. Current age is 4 weeks today!!

It doesn't look like a pure silkie to me.

With that much comb and wattle, I say male.

Oh goodness what a cutie!! Those huge black eyes!!
He doesn't look pure silkie. Silkies have feathers that are more like "fur". This little guy looks like a silkie cross of some sort.

A smooth! I have 2 first gens pullets and a cockerel. Hopefully will have some 2nd gens in the spring. Also too early for gender. Nothing screaming cockerel about yours. I did notice with mine that the boys developed large combs and darker feathers early. I’d post another pic at 12 weeks of age and hopefully there’s signs of gender by then.

Actually, after looking again, he seems to be more on the pullet side. Those tail feathers look more like a pullets would.

It’s called a Satin Silkie. Our local breeder, Alabama Silkies has them. I’m thinking pullet, but it’s a bit young. Post again in a few weeks please. Pretty baby

Yes, gorgeous eyes. I've never heard of/seen a "Satin Silkie," but, if the image fits, guess it is

For some reason I think she knows what is used to create the satin Silkie. Hopefully she replies.
I'm thinking it's a cross..

Thanks for all your help guys! He/She is quite a character, very outgoing and mischievous hence us thinking could be a Rooster. Fascinating to know that it might be a Satin Silkie!
