We have 50 broad breasted whites that are 16 days old. Tonight one is dead and a second is sick. They are inside with heat lamp, bedding is cleaned often. They are given fresh water twice a day. Today at noon, they were all fine. Tonight one is dead and second is listless, open mouth breathing and rattling from chest. There is not evident discharge from anywhere. I am not sure what else to include, but would appreciate any help.

Do they have fresh water?

What is the temperature?

Any other abnormal behavior?

Brooding indoors or out?

They are given fresh water twice a day.
Not sure about temperature. They are inside a barn in an 8ft by 8 ft. area.
The sick one raises it's head and chirps when I pick it up, but otherwise lays listless and does not move.

Oh, darn it!

1. If there is wheezing, remove the ill birds at once, DO NOT WAIT. You don't want everyone sick. put them in a cardboard box, with some nonslip bedding, and keep them away from everyone. When they get better (or not) burn box and bedding. You must quarantine sick birds, if you don't know exactly what the trouble is.

2. OK, what is the bedding? Some things they might eat, and chicks won't, which can make them ill if they don't have grit. (or its inedable)

3. It sounds like some kind of respiratory trouble, do you change the bedding a lot? Is it a small space? Does it reek? Do they have enough ventilation? Are they too hot? If they are panting and dying, heat
may be an issue, and you'll have to give them a fan and fresh air. Don't use additional heat if its over 85* (at two weeks, thats the min. temp) anything more can dehydrate and overheat, cauding death.

I'm pretty sure it's coccidiosis!
It can be easily treated but you need to give them CORID ASAP.
