So as you can see from the title that this story isn't going to be a nice one. Theres so much more to it. Let me start off that the last flock I had wasnt my first or second. My last flock was my 4th. I feel like I'm at my breaking point.
My favorite hen is named Shiloh, I got her when she was just a chick from Tractor supply, I have no idea what breed she is but that didnt matter. I loved raising chickens...
Shiloh has been through the ringer that's for sure, she was originally apart of my 2nd flock. She was the sole survivor of a slaughter that took place when I wasnt home. My first flock was of 32 birds. My Father in law let his Chihuahuas out, when he was drunk, and they killed all of them. My husband and I reinforced the pen after that. I got more chickens and well the same thing happened all over again. They tore a hole in the fencing and did the same thing. Shiloh was the only one that lived and she wasnt even old enough to lay then. The 3rd time it happened again. And this time Shiloh had all her feathers ripped out her back. In the photo you can see where feathers were growing back. She became broody after that, she didnt get to hatch out her own, but she was a great mother to the babies we snuck up under her.
This past christmas, after spending all day with my family and husband I came home to a horrible sight...once again those dogs magically got into my coop (my husband and i reinforced the coop with mesh and with the hard fencing used for dog pens. We buried it 3 ft deep) i have no idea how those little a-holes got in. But they killed every single one of my feathered babies again. Shiloh is still alive tho! She lived again, she again had all of the back feathers ripped out(but alot more this time around) I feel so bad for her. I know shes in pain. We brought her inside to keep her out the weather, besides keeping antibiotics on it and making sure shes getting food(we have to soak it in water, she wont eat the solid pellets, so it's just that and grass she will eat) and water idk what else to do for her
in the beginning she wasnt moving much but how shes walking around some. I honestly cant afford to take her to the vet rn. I guess I'm just looking for advice on what to do. Shes my only girl now, we had a roo recuperating inside from a broken leg. So shes not totally alone.
