so I have a barred rock with a tall pointed comb and last week I noticed some black scabby things on the tips. I thought it was just dirt at first but then I got a hold of her. It couldn't be frostbite cus the lowest it's got is like 43f. So I thought it was from a pecking. But now about a week later the scabby things are gone and the tips are white??? Is that just how the comb heals???

It could have been an injury, like maybe he scraped it or something. If they're gone, I wouldn't worry. If you start noticing black scabs on your other chicken's combs and waddles, it could be fowl pox too. It's a virus that a chicken can get from a mosquito, then from eachother. It just has to run it's course. Kind of reminds me of chicken pox for people. :) Once they get over it, they are immune to it and won't get it again.
