Back-to-the-lander

If you're looking into purple martins, just know that they do not eat mosquitos. That is a myth. They are also hard to attract to a property and require a lot of maintenance but are very rewarding.

Well, thank you for the information. I just read a website about them. I'm afraid Purple Martins will have to go down the list a few notches. I'll need to spend some time learning more before I tackle a project like that.

Yes, I just thought I would warn you. People put up houses only to get no martins and tons of house sparrows- and house sparrows are serious farm pests that will eat your garden and can spread disease! Purple martins are a lot of work, more of a hobby than a "useful" thing. The other animals you mentioned should do good pest control however.

The sparrows are horrible to our little wrens. I don't want to encourage them!

I want to get on top of the insect situation before I have a problem. The Muscovy Ducks have a great reputation. And so do the Guineas.
