Backwards pipping

I’m a little confused too. In my video, are they pipping up in the top of the egg, the side of the egg, or bottom of the egg by my hand?

Most of my babies are away from the air cell ... I have one that actually has it’s beak popping out the bottom of the egg away from the air cell... but in a lot of the eggs the membrane is actually pulling away from the bottom of the egg away from the air cell and that’s where the babies are trying to poke through, but once they do they drowned in the gooey stuff since there is no air... my question couldn’t I just poke a hole, which I didn with one.... and give them air ... it’s the weirdest thing I’ve seen I’m just going to get pictures for you guys.. cause I’m sounding like a crazy dumb dumb that doesn’t know what I’m talking about, but I promise I’m not ..

I still don't understand. But I do believe you know what you mean, its just hard to explain. You may have to draw us a diagram or something.

So is it possible that the air cell is drawing down so much that it looks like they are past it, when in reality, they are actually hitting the air cell? If the membrane is pulling away from the shell, it would pretty much have to be "part of" the air cell. I can't imagine how the inner membrane could pull away from the inner shell without starting from the air cell.

They were placed in an automatic egg turner with the air cells up... but have been laying on there sides since early day 26.... it’s day 30 today ... I have 3 hatched out with no problems and one that has it’s beak poked out the side of the shell away from the air cell...will this one need assisting ... or should I let it donits thing? It hasn’t made any progress in. 24hrs... and then 4 more in there that are doing what I explained trying to hatch the wrong side opposite side of the air cell.. I’ve been at work all day so I hope those ones that are flip flopped are still alive

Yeah kinda like that... almost like it’s making or forming a aircell ... but it’s not enough once they get trough it , they drown in there own gooey stuff lol I’ll try and draw a diagram

Here’s the thing to remember...when they miss the air cell, they can usually do ok at zipping in their own, as long as they aren’t too close down toward the point, and have room to do their turn.
But the kicker is since they missed the air cell, they take longer since usually they spend 24 hours in the air cell before we usually even know it. Then 48 hours after external pip, so missing the air cell could easily take 36-72 hours!

Watch the membrane for drying out, or sticking to the duckling.

Oh!!! I have never ever ever seen that happen.
If it is a true air pocket, I would think a safe hole there would be ok.
