First off I did a ton of reading and it says to never mess with a baby deer. Mama won't come to the fawn if danger is around, yes humans are danger too. She thinks it will attract whatever lurks to the baby. The come to feed a fawn several times a day but can be gone for up to 6 hours at a time foraging. If a fawn starts to follow you gently push its shoulder down and it will lay down like it's supposed to, that's what the doe does to tell it to lay and be still. The wildlife rescue told me if the mom wasn't around (dead or abandoned the fawn) then that's the only time a fawn will be in the condition it was in HOWEVER in this muggy heat flystrike will take many fawns since the mother cleans them (moisture) and the fawn lays still for long periods of time. It's the perfect breeding ground.
Long story short the infestation was worse than I thought. I didn't have any means to end its suffering humanely. I just looked up into the rain and prayed God would end its suffering and it then took its last breath. I'm thankful for that, so thankful because I was at my wits end trying to figure out what to do to end it. I cried and was up in torement until 4 this morning :/ I'm just miserable from having to bury our friendliest and favorite chicken and then this beautiful baby deer. It's been an awful week that's for sure but it's Gods will, that's the only way I've been able to cope.
