So, to get the topic back onto Brahmas I've got 28 bantam darks from John Neff in my incubator, due to hatch this weekend. I threw in about 8 of my partridge brahma eggs since I had some room. The second incubator has 18 LF darks from Duane Urch. Next week, I'm expecting a shipment of LF dark eggss from John. My brooder has 4 in it now and I just introduced 4 partridge to the flock. I'm going to be busy for the next 2 months!

I have 9 mutt brahmas. Father is buff. Mother is half light and half dark. My pullets are buff and my roos are light. They are almost 21 weeks old. Cant wait to get eggs. At what age did u guys brahmas start laying?

Mine started at about 5 months. I've heard of it taking as long as 8 months. I would expect you'll get an eggs pretty soon!

Have you thought about how you are going to handle the extra cockerels? Usually, you'd only keep one around with that size flock. Just curious as I'll be facing the same thing sooner rather than later.

I currently have Japs I am raising to show because there aren't many around here. Brahmas are the same way in certain areas. We only had three in our show and they all belonged to the same person

Well, at least I'm used to it! My husband will hate it though. He used to sit in the stands and listen to the other exhibitors and ask me afterwards why people just can't be gracious to one another!

Anyway, that is the same reason that I'm raising Brahmas to show. I want to get the word out there in my part of the world that there are other breeds besides Old English Game. We have a big history of fighting cocks in this state (just recently outlawed) and it seems like everyone raises the exact same thing. Not a lot of chicken show folks in our area, but I've been having a great conversation with our APA state rep for the past few days.

The little guy makes sure all the girls are in and guards the door until i close it. Is there anything i should be concerned with by having 2 roos and 7 pulletts? Other than sore pulletts lol?

There may be some fights at some point. The dominant rooster won't let the non-dominant mate with any of the pullets. Depending on the personalities, this can be a simple peck saying to leave the girls alone or can turn into an all out fight. Just watch for any problems, one of them may need to be removed.

Unfortunately, my cockerel problem will be much bigger if 1/2 of what I hatch are cockerels.
