Backyard Brahmas!!

Well my Brahma rooster decided to try to jump me today. He got a kick for his efforts and I told him he was up for soup the next time. We'll see.

Glad to see this thread. I also was intimidated by the other Brahma post but didn't know this one existed. Last year I asked which of 4 roosters they would keep to add as a flock rooster since my other rooster was getting old and was told that they wouldn't keep any of my birds including the girls but would rather kill them all and start with good breeding stock. I am a back yard farmer who has a small flock of Brahmas and a flock of Dorkings and Australorps. My main goal is to raise the flocks so that I have birds I can use for meat for each year so I am looking at size, temperament and egg size. So far so good as the babies each year get bigger and more beautiful.

This year I lost my main rooster and the rooster I had kept as a backup is now in the coop with the girls. I will try and get pictures once things have melted a bit and everyone has had a bath. We are just getting to the end of winter and the beginning of spring so everyone could use a bath due to the mud and a little bit of sunshine.

yeah they said my birds were ugly too. Apparently they dont think a chicken can be any good unless it costs over $100. Ive tasted eggs from a show quality brahma. Dont tell them on that other thread, but they taste the same as my $2 brahma. Shhhh. Welcome to the thread. We love all brahmas here. Post as many pics as u can.

I like this thread !

Contentment is very difficult for me, so....after reading the other thread I found offspring from the 2012 national champion for $25. (shipping cost killed the good deal)

Keep enjoying chickens, that is the most important part. I still have my brahmas from Cackle Hatchery. They eat ticks just as fast, lay eggs and give me a great view from the porch swing.

Tail feathers!!

They still hate being held... I suppose you can tell by the motion blur. This little thing was freaking out. I think they are becoming more and more comfortable with me. I have been feeding them yogurt mixed with oatmeal. I think they associate me with food!
