Backyard Brahmas!!

Here are my new babies. So excited to see what I have. The dark ones are blue partridge, and the lighter ones are Red Pyle. I think I might even have a Blue Silver. Always enjoy the wee ones. Spring is so much fun.

Not sure if my girl is a Brahma or not. When I posted her to the breed thread to see if anyone knew her breed, someone suggested Brahma possibly. So I thought, what better place to ask than on here with all the folks who already have Brahmas. So what do you think? Is she Brahma?

She is a bantam for sure and although you can't see them well in the photos, she is just starting to grow feathers on her feet.

I can't really see her comb. Is it a pea comb or a straight comb. That would make a big difference

I'm not sure what type of comb it is yet. It's still really tiny. I'll see if I can get a close-up picture of it.

They are adorable. Where did you get your chick and how old is she now? Perhaps she is a beautiful mixed breed. I love her coloring, but it is not really typical of Brahmas from hatcheries.

Red pyle, blue silver... dang i need to google

In the proper use of the term, red pyle is a black breasted red with dominant white added, thereby changing the black parts white, leaving the red mostly intact.

What I assume griffinliarfarm is referring to, if they came out of the same breeding, are actually splash phase blue partridge. Similar look to the males, but the females would retain the penciling of the partridge pattern, actual red pyle females would not. The European Brahma people,( much to the dismay of us sticklers for use of proper color names and terms), are quick to lump any splash phase partridge, or splash buff columbian patterns, as "red pyles" unless they are a lighter buff color , then they call them "lemon pyles" regardless of actual pattern. Poor habit in my opinion.

I truly hope use of misleading slang can be avoided over here.

This is why I take the time and type out all my words trying not to use abbreviations or slang to help people gain an understanding of the terms.

As to blue silver, your guess is as good as mine.

Not meaning to call you out here griffinliarfarm, being that your pretty new here and all, just kind of a pet peeve of mine.

I've never heard or seen blue silver either. Maybe griffinliarfarm can show us a picture of what color is being referenced.

Good news, 4 of my darks hatched, which was amazing to me considering the incubator problems I've been having lately. If they all make it, I should have at least one cockerel to start working on my partridge project. I need to get more definition in the colors and also need to do some serious work on their toplines, so these darks are very welcome. Hopefully I've got a good pullet in these as well, I've got some projects in mind for her as well.

I've gone ahead and left the remaining eggs in the bator while I'm out of town. Maybe another one or two will hatch, although now they are 4 days late so I'm not hopeful.

So, on my rebuilding after the great dog attack, I've now got 10 partridge LF, in various stages of development from 5 weeks to 9 months and the 4 darks that hatched this week. Long way from the 24 or so that I had in my coop a month ago. Looks like probably 4 cockerels in the bunch that is in the coop, I'm hoping I'll find at least one decent one out of the bunch. I should probably post all of this on the Brahma projects thread and see if I can't get people talking over there again.
