That's okay....we all start somewhere. I still have trouble, really just because I don't want to type that "C" word! Thanks for info. That's good to know, I will try to change my frame of reference. Old habits are hard to break.![]()
Pure white Brahmas are available here, they do exist.I'm not sure what those are but I am curious. I took my cousin's daughter to an auction 2 wks ago looking for silkies for her. She won a box of assorted "feather footed chicks" Six I can identify as silkies and/or cochins. The last has me stumped though. It's easily twice the size of the bantam chicks so I know it's a large fowl. Feather feet and a pea comb. Feathering in pure white. I'd swear it's a brahma chick except for the color. And they're supposed to be no mixes in this assortment.
I will have to get a pic of the chick in question. But so far it's looking like yours.
Yup, vulture hocks. The one on the left looks worse.I thought maybe I'd just get all of the bad stuff out of the way today, so I don't have to worry about it anymore. Below is a picture of two of my LF darks hocks. I've never had vulture hocks before, but this looks suspiciously like vulture hocks coming in. Can anyone tell me? They are 26 days old. Please don't sugar coat it, I'd rather know now.![]()

Apparently I have been talking to myself about the existence of pyle Brahmas.
What about the two that survived the last attack? You make me laugh and I needed that this morning! My son woke me in a panic, his dog (a very stubborn heeler mix) has persistently tried to get into the chickens. Today she succeeded. I now have one cockerel left, 4 dark babies that were in a dog kennel for introduction and the dog is on its way to the dog pound. Looks like I get to start my program over AGAIN! @big medicine what should I start with, or who should I get some good partridge eggs from? I have dark eggs coming this morning, so if any hatch I'll have a few more darks.
So frustrated, at least not crying this time. Hind site is 20/20, should have gotten rid of the dog when she chased the barnyard rooster a couple of weeks ago.

I´ve seen blue splash, very pretty. There´s someone near us that breeds Brahmas, he´s Dutch, so has Dutch-line birds, and he produces big white Brahmas among other colours. I´ve seen a coop of 10 or more young ones all together, beautiful-looking.A blue splash could start out looking like it's solid white. I have bred three solid white Brahmas in the last several years, so I know they exist.
Both gone. Now I'm left with 4 dark babies, 3 have vulture hocks and there is no way I'd consider breeding the 4th because if she/he is has the vulture hock gene, they will still show up I think. Just too risky. One cockerel which was bound for the freezer because he was the runt of the hatch. So, basically, I have nothing left. I'm actually going to cull tomorrow, no sense wasting any more feed.![]()

Thanks Sjisty. I thought so. Culling tomorrow, might as well have an empty coop.Yup, vulture hocks. The one on the left looks worse.
