I don't see the buff coloring (2nd picture is what I'm looking at) but I have several hens/pullets that have some off coloring where they should have silver. And I'm 100% positive that mine are darks as far back as it matters. I guess the off colors will come up every now and then, big medicine may have some ideas about where this may come from....I don't know, I just know that it crops up every now and then.Do you disagree that there is some buff coloring showing through or is this something you see occasionally with darks, I have not seen that before.
I never judge color/pattern on any of my stock until they are at least a year old and have gone through one adult molt. In some dark lines, some of the males will have some mahogany showing through, especially in the saddle and shoulder area.
If they were a buff/dark cross, there would be problems in the patterning...buffs are Columbian patterned and darks are penciled. The results would mush up the penciling and I don't see that in these girls. Mush being a very specific scientific term...LOL.
