8675309j, I've had some crow as young as 8 weeks, others not till 18 weeks. I know that doesn't help much but some really take time to mature and/or they have introverted personalities causing them to crow later.

Just wanted to let everyone know about what happened with MPC. I knew they would refund me the cost of the three dead chicks, but they also refunded the cost of their Marek vaccine, AND half the shipping since I lost half of my order! The loss was in no way the fault of MPC. and I really appreciate the way they do business. Just thought I should make that clear.

Hi Brahma Mamas and Papas when do Brahma cockerals make their COCK A DOODLE DOO? I Found someone who will take my suspected Roo but I want to make sure before we adopt him out. He (She) is sweet but all physical signs point to Roo, but I want to be 100% sure before I get rid of him... when should i Know?

My roosters never crow until 18 - 20 weeks. Usually by then they look very manly so even without the crow it is evident they are boys. Hope it helps, glad you found a home for him.

It's only been a week since my broody hatched her chicks and she's sick of them already. I really thought she was going to be a good mom, and she was for a couple days, but now I don't know what to do. I've never had a broody abandon her chicks. I have 9 new chicks in the incubator (6 Brahmas and 3 EEs) that are 3-5 days old. Do you all think I could add the 4 from the broody even though they are older, bigger, and pretty wild because they haven't been handled? They are happy in their outside pen but without mom to protect them it won't take long for a predator to move in...the ravens spotted them the other day already but I chased them away.

I think you would be fine to put them in with your younger chicks. Just keep a close eye at first. Brahmas are generally not ornery chicks so thing have always worked when I have mixed my chicks of different ages.

Just after I wrote that, the broody got in a bad fight with Meanie. I think it was continued from the day before when they were fighting through the fence and there was no clear winner. Well, the broody lost so I put her and the chicks in the inside pen so she could heal. When I let her out yesterday morning she got into a fight with the Blue Devil...neither were hurt in this fight and I think the broody (I really should find a name for her) won.
I don't know if she just felt she needed to reestablish herself with the flock or what but after that she went back to the chicks and cared for them (free range) all day. She even sheltered them through two rain storms and everyone was happy and healthy when I penned them back up late afternoon.
We'll see how today goes with them free ranging again but I'll keep the brooder option open....Thanks.
