I tried feather sexing this morning but I don't think I'm very good at it. For one brooder I pulled the chicks out and counted 7 pullets and 4 cockerels. Then I cleaned the brooder and checked them when I put them back....8 pullets and 3 cockerels!

I can usually tell at 6 weeks with pretty good accuracy. 8 weeks, I'm dead on. Before that, I'm anxious as all get out for that first 6 weeks to try to figure out what I've got in the brooder and I go back and forth a bunch of times before I just give up and decide to wait. It's funny how I know that I can't tell before 6 weeks, yet every time I try to figure it out earlier and fail. One would think that I'd learn to just enjoy the chicks and wait for the sexing.I tried feather sexing this morning but I don't think I'm very good at it. now I have 2 baby brahmas out of the 4. This new one turned out buff like The Lady. So excited!!!!Quote:
I usually just wait too but all the sexing talk made me want to try the feather sexing again. I also checked brooder #3 this morning. These chicks are only a couple days old so it was a little easier....8 pullets, 6 cockerels. I don't know if I'll be able to track these though as I think they'll probably get mixed in with the chicks from brooder #1 cause I'm running out of pens.

I'm waiting too. Been out to the coop about 6 times already today waiting on 7 Brahma eggs under an EE hen.

I hope yours turn out as well as mine. Got off to a rocky start, had one get crushed the day before the first one hatched. Just glad it's all coming together now
I've got a mix of Orpington and Brahma eggs under my Orpy mama. First time she's ever hatched any, and is doing great
so happy all over again!!!! Thought I had just about done it all with chickens, and then decided to do a hatch. So glad I did now. Here's a pic of the 4 so far. Beautiful babies!!
one of them seeming to be the "runt" of the whole flock.. so far Im loving all of my little ladies but the brahma's certainly have caught my eye as being the "prettiest" of the bunch. I cant wait until they are completely feathered out.
anyways here is a picture of my no name runt.. Out of 12 we still need to name 4 and 3 of them are the Brahma's. Looking forward to getting to know this breed better and looking at all of the beautiful pictures!
so happy!!!!
