My Brahmas never had any trouble in the heat or the cold. I think because they are so loosely feathered, they "shed" heat better than a more tightly feathered bird. My Brahmas were much better off than my Delawares in the hottest part of the summer.

OMGosh, @ anac1979,, I want that blue Brahma rooster!!! WOW! What a hunk of awesome he is!

expanded chicken coop!

I see you live in a wooded area. Unless you have a guardian dog out there, you may have issues with predators tearing through that chicken wire. ANYTHING can penetrate chicken wire and kill your beautiful birds. You must have welded wire or other strong wire, never build with chicken wire. 2x4 welded wire wrapped in hardware cloth is the best way to go, really, with an anti-dig apron. Just don't want you to have one of "those" horrible days we see so much here on BYC.

Yes we had problems with that before so the henhouse we built has a door to be shut at night, the house itself sits some four feet off the ground. The wooded area is only separating us from some ten other houses in the neighborhood and we can see through to most of them. We are watching for predators and most of the dogs in the area run most predators off. The dogs themselves are shot at constantly with an air rifle, but the ones that don't get the message get the .22 rifle. Thank you for your concern though. I will be replacing it somewhere down the road eventually.
