Hey everyone! We are a couple of 30-somethings who are new to this community and new to raising chickens - but gosh darn it - we are happy to be here!! :)

We get our very first batch of dual purpose/laying gals next week. We ordered them from Murray McMurray Hatchery and decided to get : 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Barred Plymouth Rocks and 3 White Plymouth Rocks.

We decided to build our coop & run and the progress is going swimmingly! (Pictures included). The coop is a single-pitch roof, 4x8 body. We have not decided on the dimensions of the run, as of yet.

For our brooder, we decided to use a large potato display box that we got from Sam's Club. It is very sturdy and we will place something underneath for cleaning purposes. Rather than a heating lamp, we opted to use a heating plate or brooder plate.

That's about all I have to share today, other than the fact that we are also first time (kind of) gardeners, as well! This is the first year that we have taken it seriously. We have a YouTube channel, if you'd like to follow along! https://youtube.com/@cultivatingthecornerlot

I hope you all have a fabulous rest of the week!
