A recent story in the Washington Post highlights the growing trend of households bringing chickens into their backyards. In urban and suburban areas, chickens are providing more people with fresh eggs and two-legged companionship. More power to the backyard chicken!

We just had a write up in our local Little Rock paper last week. Seems that our chickens have drawn some interest. I've had chickens for the last 15 years. More power to the chickens!!

I think one of the hatcheries posted here and said they can't believe the orders for chicks this year. Tractor Supply is having a time keeping up with the demand of chicken feed in our area. TSC guy said "It's the year of the chicken."

One of the Austin nurseries said they have had many more people buying gardening plants this year too.

Ya think no confidence in the economy?

Yes, I think we're all getting a little more creative in tough times. Plus, a lot of us have more time to get creative! The whole process of learning about chickens, building a coop, getting your first hens, keeping them healthy, etc., has been a great way to spend time I've found. And collecting fresh eggs is always a reward.
