We are excited about the opportunity to have chickens in the city. Many of our neighbors thinks it is really awesome!! We are allowed six hens and we are set up for 6. Right now I have 6 Buff Orpingtons that I have purchased from a near by chicken farm that I found on Craigslist. The lady has been very good to work with. She also has a couple different breeds for sale, I may ask if I can maybe get 3 & 3 or a mix, or I may just get the Buff Orpingtons. A town just 20 miles south has brought it before thier city council and it was thrown out, and a town 15 miles northwest of us got thiers approved right away. It is so crazy how that all works. Maybe with all of the egg recalls, more towns/cities will allow backyard chickens. Where is the list to add to friendly chicken towns?? I will be sure to post some pictures next week after we receive our chickens!!!!

Yea, Cedar Rapids! Now, if Marshalltown would just follow suit.... Of course, not having chickens in M'town is good for my egg business, but I'd much rather that folks could raise their own and eat high quality, affordable food!
