I have been reading about Jumbo Browns for some time now just read that you shouldn't keep them in the same area as chickens. I have 3 backyard chickens in this coop

I planned on having coturnix in covered hutches two pens high with meat, egg and breeding stock. How far apart do the need to be?

I don't know what the answer to your question would be, but one thing's for sure............your chickens are living in a Penthouse Suite that's 2nd to none! Matter of fact, that pic would qualify to be on the wall of a doctor's exam room around here!

I am wondering the same thing. I do like to put the quail pen inside the chicken coop or near it.

Quail can get diseases from chickens but if you have a closed flock it's unlikely. If you have a separate area for quail and practice safe biosecurity. We all breathe in air, we all carry microbes on our clothes...must I say more

What she is saying is that you shouldn't have any problems if your chickens are not sick. But if they are carrying anything, and the quail are too close, you will know it. Several of these diseases can be carried on our clothes/shoes, so that's why she says to practice good biosecurity measures.

My quail are in a hutch in the backyard. At least once a day there's a rogue guinea on top of their pen (though it does have a solid top) and there are constantly chickens underneath their pen. I've not had any problems, but some people do when keeping them in close proximity.

My quail are usually about 10 ft away from my chickens sometimes because I like to free-range and I havent had any problems yet but there use to them so I think may have developed an immunity to the diseases they may carry. But the thing is is that I keep my chickens very healthy and also my quail so they are in no condition to be susceptible to diseases.I think it would be fine to have them in the same back yard but just keep them as far away as possible as a precaution.

Thank You, This is all so confusing when you are new to something and trying to do it correctly. My pens will be on opposite side of the yard the quail off the ground . I am looking forward to my new adventure. Hope for help in the future. Again Thanks
