BackYard Chickens Stats:

I do play some games on here. I did not know people looked at that to see how knowledgeable one was, or that it was frowned upon in some circles. It would be nice if you could tell the difference between fun and educational. I did come here to learn about chickens, after all.

There are many knowledgeable members here on BYC with low post counts. They may have gained their knowledge elsewhere. So I would think judging someone's knowledge by how many posts they have would be biased. You might be missing out on some great information and wisdom. :)

I, for one, am only made aware that there are "games/jokes/fun" by topics like this. When I want to delve into the depth of fellow member's (those still extant & those now sadly missed) shared knowledge re: poultry; I rely on the Advanced Search Function. The "stats" don't help when automictic parthenogenesis as exhibited in Meleagris Gallopavo, for example, is the subject of inquiry. It is of little utility, to me, to do more than glance at the post count of members (excepting speckledhen, i.e., "how did/does she do that????). There are some members who post only rarely whose information/wisdom has led to my Advance searching all their posts and copying the info. for inclusion into my BYC.ASK (text based DB).

Having limited time, on BYC, I'm still discovering very knowledgeable members with thousands of posts, whose expertise only rarely intersects with my interests though, when it does, I'm pleased to know they're "here".

I consider the social stuff as being a handful of mealworms mixed into the standard ration. Or, as I mentioned in a post, back in `10, on the related subject of segregating the "recent posts" list into poultry/social sections by some means (earlier BYC platform), that the social/game sections are like the free chicken dinner offered to get the unwashed into the revival tent.

Well, from reading the comments, ivan3 understood perfectly what I was trying to convey on this thread.... Thank you ivan.....
Anywho, looks like everyone came for the free chicken dinner.....

Are you guys saying that you use post statistics when determining the knowledge level of people responding to posts? Or am i missing the whole point of your concerns?

Enola, evening..... What I was attempting to do was, look at the most active threads, and the top rated posts to find a topic I may have not been familiar with... Seems folks are drawn to educational and informative topics where than can learn something... That it..... pure and simple... when social postings are intermixed with informational postings, the clutter is difficult, at best, to sort through when the number of posts is the sorting criteria...

Now, I understand a little better!
