Hey everyone.My name is Dylan, I've recently bought a couple Road Island Reds and a Buff Orpington. I think they are all pullets, but I guess I'm not 100% on that. Anyhow. I grew up in a family that would buy 100 chicks every spring and use them as layers and fryers. Its been decades though since I've been around that, and These 3 birds are my first of my own. I think I've forgotten pretty much everything about keeping chickens, except how loud roosters can get. I have a 6 year old boy, and he loves the chickens, and is very excited about having fresh eggs. Trying to give him a taste of some of the life I had growing up is probably my main motivation for having hens, and we do some gardening too.We live in the suburbs, and with the urban farming movement being beginning to be embraced by us, maybe I can get the best of urban and rural lifestyles for my family. that's the plan anyhow. I have a small coop bought off of amazon. its a paws-hut, I think. anyhow, I'm guessing Ill be on this site a lot, checking stuff out, so I might as well say hi.
