Backyard Goats????

Yeah ,, GOATS!! I got the talking to the other night when dh walked by while I was checking my emails and saw the title "Backyard Goat Forum." He said he could just see it now. He is going to come home one day and there will be a goat in his the backyard and I'm going to be over there saying something about look what I got today, or I couldn't help myself. lol And actually I have thought about going and getting one but I've been holding back because he will blow if I do it. And he doesn't get angry hardly at all. I want a goat so bad lol. I figure I could learn everything I can before I try to get one so that way I am armed with the facts lol.

We actually did have a backyard goat a few years ago!! He was a pygmy, solid black goat my daughter named Spike. He thought she was his mother, when she would get off the school bus at the corner and start calling him, he would put his little hooves up on the fence and bleet for her like crazy! We had him castrated but kept his horns so they grew about 8" long back over his head. He stood about 14" high and ate everything green in my yard that he could reach!! We kept him nearly two years and sent him back to where we got him from becasue he was so jelaous of the dog he would try to get his horns under her belly to gore her. He never was real sweet like the nubian goats are. But that was here in the city limits, in neighborhood city..so yeah, a real backyard goat, lol!!!!

A goat forum would be nice. However it is set up.

I belong to another goat forum & they are on pretty much all the time & answer you but what I find is that they act like a bunch of snobs like everything you do with your goat is wrong & you are DUMB!

I hate getting into that forum because I am so afraid they are going to put me down for the way I did something. UGH! I am new to goats too so I need encouragement!

I love BYC because everyone is SO friendly & I feel like I am at home with everyone here. No one makes you feel stupid!

So if you get one started, that would be wonderful!

If I haven't already posted, I'll do so again, lol. I don't have any goats but I want some really really really baaaaaaaddddddd. So a goat forum would be totally awesome!!!!!

Like many of the others here I have found some forums to be not as friendly and helpful as this one and its sister forums. But unfortunately that is just one of those things encountered on the net.

I have found there is a lot of goat discussion and good advice on this forum concerning goats. It would be nice to see an all goat forum based on the friendly helpful crowd that hangs out here!

But in the meantime the other pets section can work for us too.

As the mama to three dwarf nigerian wethers and new mama to 13 hens, I would love a forum that covered both topics. Quick suggestion to anyone looking to get a 'backyard' goat though. Always get at least two. They are very social creatures and need a companion. My three little boys love each other but boy do they wag those little tails when then hear me come into the barn.

i sent nifty a pm about a goat forum last month. a goat forum would be nice but i don't know if he will do it right now from what he said.
but who knows we keep the "bug" in his ear maybe he will do just that and create one

we have 2 nigerian dwarf goats and they are so much fun you do need at least 2. the lady i bought mine from will not sell anyone just one if they do not already have goats.

I am so sly, I convinced my BF we needed dairy goats, then told him they have to get pregnant first.
