Bad at chicken math... great at introductions? We'll see!

Hi there! My name is Tina, I am very new to chickens - but I have wanted to have a "mini" farm (a large farm, full of miniature animals) for years now, and, after visiting an auction and impulse buying two bantams... my husband and I now have 8 chickens, oh, plus the 5 that have already hatched in my incubator. Oops. Our first two are a light brahma hen and a red sex link roo. I incubated their eggs... so, we have little surprises in the incubator now. In addition to those bulldozers (my light brahma does nothing but kick rocks and destroy everything in her path - think Seek and Destroy by Metallica... AND now you're either singing it in your head or looking it up on Youtube). The other six are silkies, which I absolutely adore and plan to breed. My silkie roo is a gorgeous spash boy.

In addition to chickens I have three cats, Ash, Booboos, and Pickle. My husband and I joke that Ash and Booboos came from a flea ridden dumpster where they smoked a pack a day (they smelled like it). They are now happily smoke-free for over 5 years (way to go, you two). Pickle was an adventure seeking kitten who enjoyed being carried around in the mouth of a black lab. After one look at her sitting on a hay bale covered in dog slobber, my husband knew she belonged with us. On a sadder note, but in the spirit of a true introduction, I cannot leave out my dearest Lexi, she was my 16 year old chihuahua that I lost two years ago this month - it never gets easier.

Since we've come full circle through the good and the bad, I think I will end it here - I hope that you enjoyed learning about my little furry/fluffy/feathery family, and my newest hobby (hatching eggs is addictive...). This seems like such a great forum and I've already learned a lot from reading many, many posts while I was researching pretty much everything about chickens. I look forward to meeting all of you!
