Bad, bad rooster.....

So today I decided that my 12 week old BR pullet was grown up enough to put in with my BR roo and 5 BR hens. BAD IDEA!! I thought I would start her off by just letting her check out the coop first so I took her in and sat her on the floor. She immediately ran out into the run and up to the roo. He went balistic.

Apparently he LOVES younger women. My poor baby was terrified. Everytime I would run over to get him off of her she would run and he would follow and right back on her. Feathers were flying, I was screaming and chasing them, and the dogs were raising cain outside the run because of all the commotion inside. Anyway, I finally caught her and put her back with the 4 month old guy, who is her buddy. Is she too young to put out with the big boys and girls? He is sooo big. I am afraid he will hurt her.

I don't know if she is old enough or not, but I wouldn't. Not with your roo acting like that. Poor little girl...

Poor little girl!!Bad Bad rapist roo! BAD! Get her a saddle too - if feathers are flying. I didnt let my ducklings mingle with the drakes till they were at least four months. But then they had the old man ( 9 y/o ) to protect them from the meany bad boys. Good luck with your poor little girl!

I guess he did answer the question I had about her being a "her"! I was pretty sure, but now I am positive! He is VERY good at his job. She is a pretty big girl so I thought I would give it a shot.

I think she will have to grow a little more to handle the bad rapist roo though!!

Put her back with the rooster and walk away. He was just showing her that HE was boss. Give him a few minutes, and I'll bet you that he just walks away once he's established dominance over ALL of his hens.
BTW, I had the same thing happen today when I put three two-month-old hens in with my rooster. He didn't show any interest in them after totally dominating them for just a few minutes.

I would keep them separate until they are closer in size. And then I would do the cage next to cage thing. Let them get to know eachother without touching.

I honestly can not stand roosters, they just always bad, IMO I will cook the rooster for dinner, in my coops I have 34 girls (BOYS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON OUR FARM

He's not bad. He's just being a rooster. Roosters live for three things - to procreate, to protect and to keep peace in the flock.
I think your pullet is a little too young, especially if he's a big roo. Try the cage to cage thing like fordmommy suggested.
