Hi all you horsie people. So on top of my new chicken hobby I have horses. JJ is a gelding I purchased last year. So I purchased him in winter, and soon as spring hit I found out he has a severe reaction to bugs!!! I tried bug supplements from smartpak with little results and stopped feeding him them. Well we are just beginning spring, his pour end of his sheath and belly are swollen, crusty, and has discharge. I plan to contact my vet, but does anyone know of something I can give him to help get through summer. I have read feeding garlic really helps, any opinions would be great. Thanks.

I do not know this from personal experience, but I have heard knowledgeable horse people swear by apple cider vinegar. I think they added it to the grain and they say it helps to repel bugs. I'd give it a try. It might work, but it can't hurt. The very worst that can happen is nothing.

Thank you! I know it is used widely for various things. Doesn't hurt.
