I got this girlie as an EE/Cochin cross. When I took her home, the lady I adopted her from said she had been picked on by the other chickens and all her tail feather were missing. We've had her for about 2.5 months now, and it's been fun to watch her tail grow in. We kept wondering whether it would be a bustle style tail from the cochin or the upright tail of the EE.
Anyhow, within the last week, I started wondering... is it done? Is THAT what it's gunna look like?!?! My mother calls it a quail tail, not that she's ever seen a quail.
I just don't know what to make of it. Anybody have an opinion?

She's just a pet, and I have zero intentions of breeding so no worries on passing on the goofy tail. I'm just curious if anyone has ever seen a tail like this before.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks!
I realized you don't even see her face in any of the pics! Whoops

So here she is, sans tail when she arrived. At least you can see her pretty face. That's her buddy Paula taking a snooze next to her:gig

Yes, I have one and she lays huge eggs! My DH calls her "jungle bird" because she never shuts up always screaming! let me see if I can find her photo

sonew123,

She looks like a polish X EE. I have several of those and one pullet looks like that only her top hat is bigger and flops over her eyes. We call her Seussie, for Dr. Seuss. Pardon my spelling if I got it wrong.

I have two, hatched them both in different clutches – parents are a Heritage Orpington Roo and a Hatchery Delaware hen.

Both pictures taken August 5th

You don't need Araucana to have rumpless birds. Also, getting Araucana in there is kinda hard, as real Araucanas are rare.

Having a rumpless bird suddenly pop out of what seems to be a normal breeding can happen. There's even a Feathersite section on it.
