So today the dog next door a "poodle" reached through the fence and grabbed one of my RIR chickens and chewed it to pieces. It was still alive so I took it to the vet to be sent to chicken heaven. The sad part is that they tried to blame it on my dog because I have a pitbull. They didnt say they were sorry or anything and theres nothing they can do to the dog because it was on its property. The two dogs they own are very mean and my pit bull is a gentle dog that wont hurt a fly. I now have chicken wire up on the side were their dogs are but now they are digging under. I guess its ok for a dog to kill chickens here in Yuma AZ. I bet if it was my pitbull it would have been taking away.

I know. My pit is so friendly and grew up around my 4 year old son and my chickens/ducks. I raised my birds inside with my dog. I have plenty of pic of them playing together. Hes is actually afraid of the bigger chickens. They share food and toys. Someone was at my house and saw everything too so I know it wasnt my dog. My bird was pulled through the fence and was attack more in their yard. I saw all the feathers in their yard going through the fence. I cant believe they tried to say it was my dog.

i was thinking of an electric fence but idk about my goofy dog. Will the chickens be ok with an electric fence?

kill those dogs do what i didn't do to my neighbors dogs, made me lose about 5 good mothering hens now i don't have anymore oriental games only bantams because of that

I'm sorry about your loss. And I understand that it's frustrating to have the neighbor's blame your dog, they probably did it because they don't want to pay for damages or they don't want to believe that their precious little foo-foo dog is a wolf at heart and perfectly capable of killing something (or both). But truthfully, you should have had chicken wire or hardware cloth along that fence all along. It's frustrating and upsetting, but no different than if a wild animal had found your coop/run and injured your chick.

see!Thats great. I love the pics. Thats how my pit is too. The stray cats can come in as long as he lets them but if they act up he runs them out. Surprisingly the stray cats are good with my birds and just kick back with them. I also have two cats that are great. No other dogs can come up to the fence though. My pits hates dogs running lose.
