Bad dog attack injury

Unfortunately a dog got a hold of our Turkey hen, Princess. She’s so sweet and is the flock leader.

This morning we noticed that she was on our deck looking through the windows. When we went out we saw blood on her leg. So upon closer inspection, she’s got a huge injury on her lower back near her tail. It’s ripped open pretty good.

We already rinsed it with water and sprayed lots of vetericyn on it. But what else should we be doing? I’ve never really dealt with an injury this large before.

Sorry about Princess. Some alginate bandages could help.

Could also pack the wound with sugar and neosporin and wrap it up. Be sure to keep the flies away or you’ll have bigger problems.

Hmm, I’m trying to figure out how I could wrap it. If I were to, it would block her vent, so I can’t do that.

Oh. Hm. I’ve seen people wrap around the vent or cut a hole in the bandage. Could you take some pictures from further away so we can get our bearings.

Yeah, I’d definitely flush that out really really well, pack with antibiotic ointment and sugar and wrap it. Cut a hole in the bandages for her vent.
