Yeah, I’d definitely flush that out really really well, pack with antibiotic ointment and sugar and wrap it. Cut a hole in the bandages for her vent.
That is such a large wound, and I am not sure what organs are affected. I would be inclined to place her in a wire dog crate or a basket with clean towels for bedding. Bring her inside, so that flies are not a problem which can cause maggot infestation or flystrike. I like povidone iodine (betadine) 10% or chlorhexidene (Hibiclens) and water for such a deep wound. Saline can be good to use after the initial disinfection, but continue the other for a day or two if there is a bado odor or signs of infection. Twice a day I would irrigate the wound and apply plain triple antibiotic ointment. I would leave it open.
Is she having any trouble eating or drinking or touble breathing? Is she able to stand and walk? The wound is near the lungs in the back and air sacs.
Just sprinkle the wound liberally, but do it 1 layer thick. (No dry sugar sitting on top of wet sugar that is stuck to her tissue)Is there a certain amount of sugar I should use?
Must caution against the use of sugar on a wound that is actively bleeding. Sugar (and honey too) CHELATE (bind with) calcium. If calcium is not available, no clot can form, so the wound will keep bleeding. But after the clot forms, like the day after the injury, sugar is an excellent idea to prevent infection.
Don't know how to say this, but the wound looks VERY SERIOUS to me. To give her a fighting chance, I'd use homeopathic remedies, which are very powerful in stimulating healing. It is important to act fast, so if you don't know anything about homeopathy, there's no time to familiarize yourself with the concept, you would just have to go on trust. Here is my post from yesterday, if you want to look at the links there, Arnica is what plastic surgeons (among others) use. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ator-wont-eat-or-drink.1321481/#post-21547384
Here is another link from a vet https://holistichorse.com/equine-therapy/homeopathic-remedies-for-wound-care-/
Arnica30 would have to be given first, but possibly followed by something else. It just breaks my heart how she came to you for help. Will watch the thread for your answer.
