Well I was aquainting my 2 GSD's with the chickies again last night. Everything was going fine with my older dog, she was a bit protective of the chick but very good with the chick, no licking, just a bit of sniffing.
Next I tried my younger dog Roxy. Everythign was going good until she licked the top of the chickies head. I kept my thumb above the chicks head as a procaution and boy am I ever glad I did. Well the baby let out a loud PEEP at being licked and the next thing I know Roxy has both my thumb and the chickies head in her mouth (but not biting down or anything). She immedietly released it at being scolded along with getting a swat on the behind.
Chick was safe and sound except for the dog slobber.
Unfortunately the chicks peeping sounds just like Roxys favorite "squeeker" toy which is why I suspect she tried to "play" with it.
Fortunately she usually never makes the same mistake twice and later was perfectly fine with the chick and its peeping. She didnt want to even look at it in the begining as she is a bit of a "sensative" dog who doesnt like to be scolded.
Quite a close call though....
