Hello, this is my first time hatching eggs. When i go to candle them the light shines easily through the air sac but the rest of it is pitch black. They are due to hatch in the next 3 and 4 days. Now heres why im curious if they are good or bad......or just me over thinking and worrying lol. Some of the eggs i can candle the pointy end as well and see in there just a little bit. As where others i cannot. They are all different breeds, i have some Easter eggers, Gold sex link, Barred Rock, Astrolorpes and Lavender Ameruacana's. ((Or at least i think the ameruacana's are in there lol. Kinda hard to tell with the easter Egger eggs being same color.))

SO if anyone can give me some advice or has had experience in this I am all ears. Thankyou

The bit you can see is egg yolk, blood veins, and embryo feces. A candling picture would help. They sound perfectly normal. Mine have the gap at the pointy end too.

I will try and get a picture up. of both the eggs. and try to use same egg type. Also...my brown eggs are hard to see through is that normal?

The first two pics are the same egg. Um you can barely see anything at the bottom but most of my eggs the bottom pointy end is black. The second one is the one you can see through the bottom and top. Those two eggs have the same hatch day.

and i apologise for such large pictures. Used my phone and lol bit hard with my three yr old going "I wanna see i wanna see"

I am NOT an expert. I have only hatched once and candled around day 10 and day 16ish and this is similar to what they looked on that day. You won't see a whole lot the closer they are to hatch because the chick starts to fill the egg, with the exception of the hair cell, so all appears normal from what I can see! There are some useful articles regarding candling under the "articles" menu at the top of this page.

Alrighty. THank you for helping usualy i just go and buy chicks so this is a first of actually hatching any. lol

I threw some pictures up of them if you care to look. It's just weird that some had the gap and some didn't. I can't really see veins in the ones that dont though. All i see is the air sac and black.
